Mesotherapy FAQ

1. What is Mesotherapy?

An injection of ingredients that cause the fat cell to dissolve and the fat to then be passed out of the body.

2. What is in the Mesotherapy Cocktail?

  • Phosphatidylcholine (LipoStabil): This makes up 60% of our cell walls. This is the ingredient that actually causes the cell wall to dissolve. This ingredient is produced by our bile duct to break down the fats in the foods we eat.
  • Yoihmbine: Increases blood flow.
  • Lidocaine: Eases the comfort of the client.
  • Hyaluronidase: Removes water retention and has a restructuring effect on connective tissue.
  • Collagenase: Aids in the break down of scar and fat tissue.
  • L-Carnitine: Helps increase energy, burn fat, supports liver and heart health.

Notes: We get our compounded solutions from an ACCREDITED pharmacy. There are only a handful of these in the entire country. To give you an idea of how clean and sanitary that is - most pharmacies in hospitals do not qualify as accredited pharmacies!!

3. How is the fat excreted?

The fat passes in the urine and feces. The client may experience loose stools or diarrhea.

4. What are the main side-effects?

  • The client WILL BE very swollen for up to 5 days after the injections.
  • Bruising and soreness are to be expected.
  • The client needs to be advised to schedule their first treatment when they can go home afterwards until they know how they will react to treatment.
  • The client will form little small knots in the treated area. This is normal and is a good sign. These are the fat cells swelling before they dissolve.
  • On rare occasions, nodules can occur and can last up to six months. These are not anything that can be seen but can be felt under the skin.
  • Clients will be itchy and have a warm sensation in the inflamed area.

5. Who is a candidate for Mesotherapy?

  • Anyone who has fat pockets is a candidate for Mesotherapy.
  • Controlling client expectations is crucial.
  • A very small person with small pockets can expect those small pockets to be reduced. If you cannot pinch the fat, the client is not a candidate for Mesotherapy.
  • An overweight person can use Mesotherapy to make themselves more comfortable in localized areas.
  • This is not a form of weight loss and clients must be prepared for that.
  • Smokers will have longer healing times and may bruise and react more than non-smokers.

6. How often can I treat?

Once every two weeks.

7. How long do the results last?

  • These results are considered permanent.
  • New fat cells can be formed.
  • Usually you will start to see the new fat cells at the gain of about 8 pounds and upwards.

8. What is the difference between Mesotherapy and LipoSuction?

LipoSuction makes the area completely void of fat cells so that when the client gains weight again, it is very uneven and unsightly. With Mesotherapy, the fat stem cells are still left in the body so if any weight is gained, it is gained back in the same way as before.

9. Can I treat the fat on my butt?

No, we can treat cellulite on the butt and we can treat clients who have a “banana” (the second butt under their buttocks). Most people’s “butt fat” is under the muscle, therefore we cannot dissolve it away since we do not inject into the muscle.

10. What areas can I treat with Mesotherapy?

  • Arms – flab that hangs from arms when they are held straight out.
  • Abdomen (There could be an extra charge for obese people do to needing more solution). See manager/nurses for clarification. This area does not include the “love handles”/flanks.
  • Back Roll – roll of fat that goes all the way across the back typically between the waist and the bra line. This area does not include the “love handles”/flanks.
  • Flanks – “love-handles” from pelvic bone to rib-cage.
  • Inner Thigh.
  • Outer Thigh – “saddle-bags”.
  • Knees – fat deposits directly above the knees.
  • Waddle – the deposit of fat below the jaw.
  • Banana – the “second” butt under the regular butt.
  • Bra Strap – the roll that comes out over the bra strap (client will wear bra during procedure for delineation). This will also include the small roll in the front of the arm above the breast. See manager/nurse for clarification.

11. How do we compare against FIG?

  • They do not add any lidocaine to their injections so the comfort level is not as good.
  • They do not have the DermaWave or the Ionithermie to smooth out the skin so they do not have the total solution for their clients.
  • The guarantee that they offer is based on weight and the judgment of the practitioner, not client satisfaction.
  • Our ingredients should promote better results due to targeting multiple problems, not just dissolving the cell walls.
  • Upper and lower abdomen are two separate areas costing $2500 each.

12. Does it hurt?

  • Everyone has a different level of pain tolerance.
  • The less fat in the area the more sensitive it will be. The closer to bone you are the more sensitive it is. Spine and inner thigh are typically more sensitive areas.
  • Clients can use a topical anesthetic cream or gel to help minimize sensitivity.
  • Ice can also be used to minimize sensitivity.

13. When can I resume exercise?

When you feel better, but we recommend avoid strenuous exercise for 48hrs after treatment.

14. How many treatments will I need?

  • Most people are happy at six treatments of Mesotherapy, but some people will need a couple more.
  • These are spaced at two week intervals. You can go to three weeks but not four.
  • If the client cannot treat consecutively, then have them post-pone treatment until they can.

15. When can I have other treatments at the MedSpa? (LHR, Ionithermie, DermaWave)

One week after treatment

16. If I have an important event coming up, when should I have my last treatment?

Three weeks before event, a month if you can.

17. How long are the treatments going to take?

The first treatment will be 45 minutes. Following treatments will be 30 minutes for single areas and 45 minutes for double areas).

18. Why do I need a compression garment and what type do I need?

  • These do not have to be medical grade.
  • For the body, major department stores have “Spanks” or something similar.
  • This is crucial for client comfort and should be worn for up to 72 hours after treatment.
  • For the arms and neck, an ace bandage or something similar should be worn.
  • The swelling is caused by expanding fat cells.
  • There will be discomfort when the client moves which causes the expanding fat cells to shift.
  • The garment helps reduce the amount of movement to the injected areas.
